Our Story

In 1954 Calvin Summey was employed to manage and draw plans for Mauldin Lumber & Supply Company, located on Main Street in Mauldin, South Carolina. After some 20 years, he was given the chance to purchase it. The name was then changed to th' Lumber Yard.

Like father, like son, Buddy Summey grew up with a love and talent for 'working with wood'. Buddy joined th' Lumber Yard as a partner in 1977 after finishing Clemson University and is now the owner.

Specialty products, (sometimes defined as, what someone sees and wants, but can't make themselves) and Custom Services sets th' Lumber Yard apart from other lumber companies. "We take the time to listen to what our customer wants or needs. We have the experience and skill to guide them. We are all about people and the pleasure wood products can bring to their lives."

While many things have changed since 1974, the backbone of our business has not changed. We continue to strive to provide quality lumber and custom services that you can’t find in the chain supply stores with personal customer service.
